This is a brand-new quality product made in America by the famous “Truett & Osborn” company for all Harley-Davidson 61” E & 74” F-Series motors with roller bearing sprocket shafts (not Timken) 1941-54, for street or racing use. This is exactly what you need as the foundation for your high-performance motor.

Knucklehead or Panhead 80 Stroker Flywheels

Nothing adds torque like stroker flywheels! Gives you the power for high cruising speed, and better acceleration, also increases compression. The flywheels are lighter than stock, which also helps throttle response and acceleration.
These flywheels can also be ordered in the famous “

TorqueMonster

” heavyweight variety with about 4 lbs. more weight at $55.00 extra cost. In absolute terms, acceleration will be slower with heavier flywheels, most noticeable in 1st gear. Desite the name, they do not produce extra torque, they store extra torque. However, they do make starting and riding at low speeds easier, improve idle quality, and require less concentration for clutch operation, especially with large engine and transmission sprockets and heavy bikes. Read more about inertia here: .
This is a very reasonable investment - it’s only a small part of your total motor cost, and does more in one step than anything else - more than hot cams, bigger carburetor, etc., although those parts will work even better on your stroker motor.
This is not a radical, dangerous and short-lived modification, 80” knucklehead and panhead stroker motors have been built for over 60 years. The motor will not explode, overheat, be difficult to start, or wear out immediately (the extra piston travel does shorten the time between top end rebuilds slightly, but we’re talking about years, not months).
The flywheels are 4¼” (4.250” stroke = 80”) stroke, the same as the 1978-* shovelhead and Evo motors (which don't fit your motor) so they’re a practical size for long life and mileage, are furnished in the original 8.50” outside diameter which will safely clear the case scraper in all 1941-54 motors, and are a direct replacement (except for stroke length and weight) for the original flywheels in these motors. 1936-40 EL motors with the original smaller diameter flywheels will need case modification for flywheel rim clearance.
These flywheels use all std. 74” F-Series lower-end components, including your own rod set, shafts, bearings, etc. including the common 1941-81 OHV big twin 1¼” crank-pin (not included). No special parts (other than pistons) are required for installation, and no welding or expensive machine work; this means that your project is less expensive.
The flywheel material is far superior to the original factory cast-iron. Every individually crafted flywheel begins as a 80-55-06 ductile (nodular) iron blank, which is then heat-treated to 220-250 BHN. The 80,000 pound tensile strength blanks undergo an exacting 20-step manufacturing process, utilizing both CNC and conventional precision milling and machining. This insures accurate surfaces, legendary reliability, and excellent “truability”, an absolute necessity when setting up high performance motors to blueprint specifications. If properly installed and maintained, they will not wear out, but give many years of trouble-free service.
Ductile cast-iron is the superior material for flywheels, since its surface provides a better “grip” on the crankpin and shaft tapers than a steel forging to prevent slippage. Cast-iron also damps out internal vibrations better than steel.
Although you cannot use stock pistons with these flywheels, you can easily modify original or reproduction FL pistons (even the ones in the motor now, if in excellent condition) for use with these flywheels by simply shortening the skirts with a file, hacksaw, Dremel, etc. and using small stroker plates, reducing your construction cost.
Warning: this is more complex than a normal rebuild, requiring prior experience and other assembly work. Flywheels must be balanced to your components.
